Shiryaev Albert Nikolaevich was born on 12 October 1934 in Shchelkovo (the Moscow region). Graduated in 1957 from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics (Moscow State University). Ph.D. in Mathematics and Mechanics (1967). Professor (1970). Head of the Department of Probability Theory (1996) at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University. Head of the Statistic Laboratory of Random Processes (1986) at the Steklov Institute of Mathematics (the Russian Academy of Sciences), Associate Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (1997), Member of the Europe Academy (1990), President of Bashellier Society in Financial Mathematics (1998), Honorary Member of the Royal Statistic Society (Great Britain, 1985), Member of the International Institute of Statistics, Member of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (USA), Member of the Moscow Mathematical Society. Markov Prize Laureate (1974), Kolmogorov Prize Laureate (1994), Gumbold Prize Laureate (1996).
