The strains of a long circular cylinder made of an incompressible material are determined for the case of a given displacement field using the matrix approach. The cylinder is spun under the conditions close to the conditions of plane deformation. Various approximations of strain matrices are considered. A generalized representation of these matrices in the form of the logarithm of a symmetric operator matrix obtained by multiplying the strain operator matrix by its transpose is discussed. The strain tensor components are found.
